11 Things to Watch Out For

The Giants have experimented with different things throughout training camp as they prepare for the NFL’s new kickoff rules, but special teams coordinator Michael Gobrial has tried to keep it as simple as possible.

“I think everyone thinks they can do a lot with this kickoff return system,” he said. “For example, I wrote 50 returns.”

“So does that mean you can do all 50 of them? I don’t think so. Ultimately, I think the basics of a kickoff return plan should start simple. A lot of people think it’s easy to start in the preseason, and then over the course of a few games, you’ll see how complicated you can make your plan.”

Ghobrial’s first chance to test those returns (and his kickoffs) against another team and a different coordinator will come next week.

Outside of the Hall of Fame game, this will be the earliest insight into how teams will attack the new rule.
