Even if you tend to gravitate toward bold colors, neutrals are important colors in interior design. And there’s a lot to explore when choosing a neutral paint color.
I wanted to share some of the best neutral paint colors I’ve used in my home, why I’m drawn to them, and what I think they bring to a room. The list below includes four very different colors: white, cream, light pink (visually read as neutral), and black.
If you’ve decided on a neutral paint color for your home, we hope you find this post helpful. This is also a great post to bookmark for future design projects!
Here are four of the best neutral paint colors I’ve used in my home.
1. The White Dove by Benjamin Moore
Here’s where I used this color: The family room is in the basement of the current home and the main level of the previous home.
It is a refreshing white color with no dull feel at all. It’s a warm color, but it doesn’t have a lot of yellow in it, so it doesn’t feel like a cream color. As design trends move toward warmer colors, this is a classic white paint color to use.
2. Benjamin Moore’s Sailing Cloth
Here’s where I used this color: This is currently the family room in the basement of our house.
If you’re looking for a bright neutral color with a bit more visual weight, Sail Cloth may be right for you. It’s a warm color that’s one step creamier than White Dove. If you want to emphasize the contrast between two neutral colors, you can pair Sail Cloth and White Dove together like I did in my basement living room.
3. Plaster setting using Farrow & Ball
Here’s where I used this color: This is the decoration of the current home’s entrance and guest room.
Setting plaster is a great color to use if you want to go one step further than white or cream. ~ degrees saturated. Although it is a bright pink, it still reads as a neutral color and is a versatile option that can be used in many different types of rooms.
4. Wrought iron by Benjamin Moore
Here’s where I used this color: This is a cabinet that was in the kitchen of my previous home.
It’s a beautiful black-grey color that adds depth without overpowering the entire room. Sometimes a very dark black can feel overwhelming, to the point that it overpowers all other design features in a space. Wrought iron has a softness to it that I really like.
