SANTA CLARA, California — The San Francisco 49ers’ win over the New England Patriots was headlined by Fred Warner’s long injury list due to an ankle issue.
But coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that none of those injuries are serious enough to sideline him long-term. Notably, that includes star linebacker Warner, who will play every day this week after missing the second half on Sunday.
Warner underwent additional imaging of the ankle Monday morning, and the results allayed any fears the Niners had Sunday night.
“I feel better every day,” Shanahan said. “I think there’s always some time if he gets an ankle sprain or something like that. I know he was sore today, but as you can tell from the reports and everything, every day gives him a chance to recover this week.”
Warner suffered an ankle injury just before halftime against the Patriots after playing 27 snaps and making seven tackles with an interception return for a touchdown. He was seen wearing a helmet on the sideline testing his ankle to open the third quarter, but did not return.
After the game, Warner didn’t seem overly concerned that the injury was too serious.
“It’s all based on feeling,” Warner said. “Like I said, it’s going to be a long time before I get out, so if I could have been there I would have. We’ll have more information as we go through the scans and things like that, but right now I feel good.”
Warner isn’t the only Niner who will be considered every day this week. In fact, every player listed on the post-match injury report has the same designation. This group includes fullback Kyle Juszczyk (shoulder), tight end George Kittle (ribs), defensive tackle Jordan Elliott (knee), receiver Jacob Cowing (shoulder) and receiver Chris Conley (oblique).
The 49ers might get some reinforcements from injured reserve this week. Receiver Ricky Pearsall was placed on injured reserve after suffering a gunshot wound during an attempted robbery in San Francisco on Aug. 31.
Pearsall has now missed a mandatory four games on injured reserve and is eligible to open the practice period. Shanahan said a decision on this will be made in the coming days.
Defensive tackle Kalia Davis is also eligible to return to practice, which Shanahan said he is working on.
“There’s a good chance we’ll open his window this week,” Shanahan said. “I’d be surprised if they’re not open for practice on Wednesday.”
Shanahan also confirmed what general manager John Lynch told KNBR radio on Friday in San Francisco. This means Christian McCaffrey is dealing with tendonitis in both Achilles tendons, but one is more problematic than the other.
McCaffrey remains on injured reserve, but Shanahan said Friday he will begin strengthening his rehabilitation this week.
“He had both,” Shanahan said. “I think it started on one side. You overcompensated and went on to the other side. Mainly one of them bullied him, but he had it from both.”
