Abdelmadjid Tebboune wins second presidential term with 94% of the vote

Outgoing Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune won a new presidential term on Sunday evening with a huge margin of votes compared to his rivals in early elections held yesterday.

Mohamed Charfi, head of the Independent Elections Office, announced at a press conference that President Tebboune received the majority of the votes with 94.65%, and candidate Abdelari Hassani Sherif is the leader of the Movement for a Peaceful Society (the largest Islamic political party). ) took second place with 3.17% of the votes.

Youssef Ouchich, the candidate for the first Secretary General of the Socialist Front (the oldest opposition/leftist party), came in third and last place with 2.16% of the votes.

Sharafi said that among the more than 24 million voters registered on the electoral register, 5 million, 630,000 and 196 votes were cast for the three candidates.

This presidential election is the second presidential election to be hosted by an independent election management authority following the 2019 election, which was held under the supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the election monitoring authority was reduced.
