Abortion bill lost in Florida after receiving 1 million more votes than Ron DeSantis

Despite winning a million more votes than Ron DeSantis, Republicans showed signs of weakening democracy in Florida after a bill made abortion a constitutional right in the state.

Adam Smith posted:

The amendment died because the gerrymandered Florida Legislature limited passage to 60%. The bill passed overwhelmingly, with 57% support, but it means nothing because DeSantis has tied his legacy and political future to the abortion ban.

What happened in Florida is an example of what happens when Republicans destroy democracy and send the message that the will of the people does not matter.

DeSantis wants to use Florida as an example of Republican rule over the entire country and how that rule will trample individual rights and the government will rig the game against fundamental rights when it looks like the will of the people will win. .
