Senator-elect and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) made strong remarks about Trump’s plan to pardon those who attacked the Capitol on January 6.
This week on ABC:
STEPHANOPOULOS: What about the question about the January 6th amnesty?
SCHIFF: Well, I’m very concerned about that. First of all, he could forgive the people who beat, whipped, and sprayed the police with bear spray.
But beyond that, the general message to George is that the first pardon will go to those who would use violence at the Capitol to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. .
Really, is he – is he someone you want to forgive?
I think Americans voted for him in part because they wanted to do something about crime, not because they wanted to see him become a criminal attacking their government. They want to do something about fentanyl. They want action to be taken against robberies in California.
This is not what they have in mind, neither is political revenge, nor is it rewarding those who participated in the rebellion to prevent a transfer of power.

Schiff, soon to be a senator, was right. Having Trump be the first one sends a terrible message to the country. I will forgive those who attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The broad points Schiff makes are of utmost importance from a political perspective.
The American people did not vote for Trump to use the power of the presidency to line the pockets of billionaires and free convicted criminals while attacking those he views as political enemies.
None of this was what many voters thought they would get if they voted for Trump over Kamala Harris.. Most voters want Trump to do something about prices and inflation, but the president-elect has already ruled that out as too difficult.
Instead, he will cut taxes on the rich, deport immigrants, impose tariffs, and free criminals.
Those who made the mistake of voting for Trump when they were unsure will soon regret their decision.
