Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, ranked world number three, won his second consecutive Wimbledon tennis title on Sunday, defeating Serbia’s number two Novak Djokovic in the final last year.
Alcaraz came into the match strong and won the first set 6-2.
The situation was no different in the second set, with the Spaniard winning 6-2.
The third set was even more competitive, with Alcaraz coming close to winning the match after breaking Djokovic’s service in the ninth game to level the score at 5-4, but the Serbian got up and broke the Spaniard’s service to level the score at 6-6 before Alcaraz won the service break 7-4 to win the match.
The 21-year-old Spaniard defeated his 37-year-old Serbian rival in five sets in the final to repeat the 2023 scenario and extend his Grand Slam title tally to four, preventing Djokovic from equalling the record for most Wimbledon titles with Swiss Roger Federer, who has eight titles.
The Serb also failed to break the record for most major titles won by an amateur and professional player combined, equalling Australia’s Margaret Court’s record of 24 each.
