Andy Murray I have decided to withdraw from the Wimbledon singles tournament.
The 37-year-old made a last-ditch effort to recover in time after undergoing surgery to remove a spinal cyst 10 days ago, but ultimately decided to give up on Monday morning.
He is expected to be replaced by Belgian lucky loser David Goffin in the singles draw.
“Unfortunately, Andy has made the very difficult decision to not compete in the singles this year, despite undergoing surgery a week ago and working incredibly hard to recover,” Murray’s team statement said.
Andy – It’s a shame I can’t compete in the singles this year.
But we can’t wait to see you compete in doubles and celebrate all the memories you’ve given us 💚💜 pic.twitter.com/rB7onqfirX

“As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed he will play doubles with Jamie and is looking forward to competing one last time at Wimbledon.”
Murray leads all active players with 119 grass-court titles, having won Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016. The former world No. 1, who became the first Briton to win a major title in 77 years by winning the 2012 US Open, has a career record of 739-262 with 46 titles on the ATP Tour.
