Smart doors sound like a great idea, and they are. Last year, Home Depot made headlines when it introduced the Masonite M-PWR, a $5,000 smart door with built-in lights, sensors, a smart lock, and a smart doorbell. The M-PWR was discontinued less than a year later, but Home Depot announced that a replacement will be hitting stores next week, and it’s cheaper than you might expect.
The new Feather Rivers smart glass doors are powered by Hubspace, Home Depot’s smart home automation system that works with more than 150 affordable smart home devices in the store. The doors retail for $999 for the full-lite, $899 for the half-lite, and $799 for the Craftsman style, which is a far cry from the $5,000 range.

Glass inserts are the smartest feature of fiberglass doors. With a tap of a button or the Hubspace app on your phone, you can change from a frosted finish to clear glass. This approach is perfect for doors that want to let in light during the day but create shade for privacy at night.
Customers can choose to keep these smart River Feathers doors transparent for a set amount of time each day and then return them to opaque when the time is up. Alternatively, users can choose to have the glass become transparent to allow a view of something or someone outside and then automatically revert to opaque after one minute.

This door can connect to your phone via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and works seamlessly with other Hubspace smart home devices, including: Defiant Hubspace Fingerprint Smart Deadbolt.
The Feather Rivers Fiberglass Smart Door comes with two batteries and a charger so you can always operate the door even if the power goes out. It also has a USB-C plug on the hinge side of the door for convenient plugging in.
The default state of the inquiry is a frosted glass finish, which only drains the battery when clear. According to Nick Millett, director of product development at Home Depot, each battery can last up to five days in clear condition, but with normal use, it can last up to two months.

The River Feathers smart glass doors powered by Hubspace will be available September 30. Each door is made of fiberglass, primed and paintable. Installation is available at an additional cost through Home Depot.
Permanent outdoor lighting from Hubspace
Home Depot also announced a new permanent outdoor lighting line that will be available in stores in mid-October, just in time for the holidays. These string lights can be screwed under the eaves of your home and will stay on all year long. You don’t have to take them down and reinstall them every year.
Millett explained that Home Depot worked with Nanoleaf to create these lights, which are bright string lights that stay bright over time. The lights change color but feature cool white and warm white LEDs, making them perfect for year-round use.

On non-holiday days, you can customize how the lights turn on and off, and even turn on only the LEDs above the porch for a more sophisticated ambiance.
The light sells for $99 for 50 feet, with an extension kit available for $29.
Vissani Smart Freezer
First announced earlier this year, the new Vissani 8.8 cubic foot smart freezer will be available on September 26 for $299. It has all the features you’d expect from a high-quality freezer, like a counterbalanced lid and garage-ready construction, plus some smart components that really make it stand out.

The $299 freezer connects to the Hubspace app, which notifies your phone if the freezer goes offline, is acting abnormally, or detects high temperatures. You can also use the app to set modes and choose between fridge or freezer mode.

The entry sensor can send an alert when the door is opened and features a small, thin design that fits perfectly into the door frame. Each also has a button to temporarily turn off the chime, for example, when you open the door at night and don’t want to wake up anyone in the house.
