Siri will finally get a major boost in the spring of 2025, when Apple makes its Apple Intelligence AI system available to everyone with the iOS 18.4 update. BloombergLatest Mark Gurman Power on Newsletter. More specific than Apple has revealed. So far, it has only said that flagship AI features will be released next year.

Apple regularly releases new features in chunks across its operating systems as point updates. So while it’s possible that Siri could, for example, use Apple Intelligence to do things for you—like find your ID in your 20,000-photo library in Photos or copy your driver’s license number and enter it into an online form—AI-based emoji creation or writing assistance might not be ready yet. Gurman didn’t mention it directly, but it’s worth keeping in mind.

We’ll start integrating features in iOS 18 beta later this year, and as we get closer to the 18.4 release, we’ll start to see more clarity on what’s coming first. In the meantime, expect to see features like ChatGPT integration this fall, a new Siri interface that ditches the old circular graphics for a fluttering rainbow surrounding the inside of the screen bezel, and deeper product knowledge to help Siri provide basic technical support.

Apple’s future AI plans appear to include AirPods with built-in cameras, as rumors have been popping up time and time again, like last week. By supply chain analyst Ming-Chi KuoThere will be an infrared sensor, which will be used in conjunction with Vision Pro to detect hand gestures and motion, Gurman said. Gurman describes something similar to Meta’s Ray-ban glasses. For example, AI could process images from the glasses to help describe objects in the surroundings or help you find your way around while you walk. He wrote that these new AirPods Pro could be two generations apart.
