Arne Slot acknowledges Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ambition.

Arne Slot has enough problems with his case than to continue to question Trent Alexander-Arnold and the rest of his team-mates.

Before the Tottenham game, the Dutchman was asked about the Scouser’s comments about his ambition to be remembered as the greatest right-back of all time and said: “I definitely like this as a player. I think every player has what it takes to play at this level.

“Without it, I probably wouldn’t be playing at this level. As far as they understand, the team as individuals must be special, put the team first and be special themselves as a result.

“That’s what they all do, including Trent. All the best players have this, they want to be special, they want to be the best.

“Without that, I think it’s so hard to stay healthy, play and try to be a good person every three days.

“Whenever you see them during a game, you’re like, ‘What a good life these guys have.’ In fact, they have a great life, but it takes a lot of hard work to make it happen. I think every 3 days is best.

“That mindset and discipline isn’t available to everyone. So that’s the mindset of a top player and part of that is what the best player possible at his position – the best player in the world – needs and wants.”

There seems to be no problem with players having high career aspirations, but the team always comes first.

The elephant in the room about all this is the fact that our number 66 is in the final year of his contract at Anfield and has been widely linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.

Recent reports suggest the right-back has been offered a lucrative four-year contract and it seems unlikely the talk will go away.

It feels like the England international continues to maintain that there have been no hiccups regarding new deals he has signed in the past, and this will be no different.

Time will tell whether the 26-year-old will stay at his boyhood club or be tempted by the money on offer in La Liga.
