Arne Slott believes goals have become more difficult for Liverpool after they got off to a late start to secure a 2-0 win in added time against Brentford.
The league leaders, who had 37 shots on target on Saturday, needed Darwin Nunez’s late double to secure a valuable three points for Premier League glory.
The hard-fought win in west London came after successive draws with Manchester United and Nottingham Forest and Slott believes the opposition’s defensive arrangements are making it increasingly difficult for his side to find goals.
“You can see at this moment that it’s harder for us to convert opportunities into goals,” Slot said.
“It’s not just up to us. Because the team throws themselves in front of every ball whenever they get the chance.
“So many other teams are trying to stop us from scoring because they’re all on the low block.”
Liverpool’s defense has been key to their success this season, conceding just 20 goals in 21 Premier League games.
Slot cited the centre-back partnership of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk as a key reason for their success.
“Most of these moments were defended really well by Ibou and Virgil,” he added.
“They went one-on-one on the counter-attack but we pushed them away very well and Alisson helped save that shot.
“In the pre-match meeting, I emphasized that Brian Mbeumo likes to go left and goes inside to score a lot of goals.
“Of course, one of the reasons we are at the top of the league table is because we have two or four very good centre-backs.”
Brentford, who bounced back from Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with champions Manchester City, failed to replicate that performance on Saturday.
Bees manager Thomas Frank cited Liverpool’s physicality as a factor in their success.
“They are very physical,” Frank said.
“(Dominic) Szoboszlai, (Alexis) Mac Allister, (Cody) Gakpo and of course Konate and Van Dyke. “They are fantastic technically and tactically and they are also very physical.”
