Chicago Bears defensive end Douglas Coleman III has been released from the hospital after suffering a tackling injury during the Bears’ 34-21 preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

Bears coach Matt Eberflus told 670 The Score on Friday that Coleman is returning to Chicago after being hospitalized overnight in Kansas City.

Coleman suffered the injury while tackling Kansas City’s Cornell Powell near the Chiefs sideline on the first play from scrimmage in the second half.

Eberflus said Coleman showed movement in his limbs Thursday night and gave a thumbs-up to players and coaches before leaving the field.

Coleman, 26, played for the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks for the past two seasons. He attended college at Texas Tech and began his professional career as a non-drafted free agent with the Denver Broncos in 2020.
