Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) says Donald Trump is already laying the groundwork to falsify the 2024 election results.
Senator Sanders said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:
Donald Trump He may be crazy, but he’s not stupid. When he claims that “no one” showed up at the Harris-Walz rally in Michigan, which had 10,000 people, and that the media broadcasted it live and widely, and that it was all AI, and that the Democrats always cheat, there’s method to his madness. What Trump is doing, obviously and dangerously, is laying the groundwork for rejecting the election results if he loses. If he can convince his supporters that the thousands of people who showed up at his televised rallies don’t exist, it won’t be hard to convince them that the election results in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and elsewhere are “fake” and “fraudulent.”
This is what destroys faith in institutions. This is what undermines democracy. This is fascism.
This is why we must do everything we can to defeat Trump.
Trump is trying to deny the size of the Harris-Wales crowd because it is the gateway to fraud. Trump is intimidated by Harris’s energy and the large crowd, but he also knows that if he acknowledges the large crowd as real, it will be harder to denigrate the election results after he loses.
Bernie Sanders That’s right. Trump is setting the stage for claiming that the election was stolen from him and that the people who voted for Harris-Wales were not real. One reason is that the former president has lived his entire life in a land of delusional fantasy. Another reason is that the Harris campaign, which draws huge crowds, makes it difficult for him to deny the results.
Trump is working every day to undermine the legitimacy of our democracy, and he must be stopped.
