After an incredible career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and winning an NFL-record seven Super Bowl titles, future Hall of Famer Tom Brady chose a new challenge to move from the football field to the broadcast booth.

There have been success stories of former quarterbacks who have made this transition, like Dallas Cowboys legends Tony Romo and Troy Aikman, but not every former player has been able to make this career change and has the tendency to burn out quickly, like New Orleans Saints icon Drew Brees.

With Brady being the most successful football player in the history of the game, many have given him the benefit of the doubt that he will make a smooth transition into the broadcast booth and provide plenty of insight while covering NFL games.

But midway through his first season, Brady has received mixed reviews as a broadcaster, with some believing he’s forcing it a bit or not coming as naturally as Romo and Aikman have been able to do over the years.

Bill Simmons of The Ringer, a huge fan of Brady and the Patriots, has publicly criticized the quarterback he has rooted for for the past two decades, thinking he is an untapped resource for FOX Sports and underused in the broadcast booth.

“This guy is one of the best resources we have in football and they don’t utilize any of it,” Simmons said.

Simmons is not wrong in his assessment. Brady seems to provide fake energy on the air and doesn’t seem like he’s a good fit, but it’s still early and he needs time to figure things out in this new gig after he’s over 20 years old. It’s been a few years since I played the game.

Only time will tell whether Brady will succeed in this new gig, but fortunately he has time to improve.
