New York Giants coach Brian Daboll said Monday that wide receiver Malik Navers, a first-round NFL draft pick, is back to “day-to-day life” after limping out of Sunday’s practice with ankle and foot injuries.

Daboll also said he did not believe Nabus suffered a fracture.

The latter part of Daboll’s comment, in which he said he didn’t think it was a fracture, indicates that he hasn’t had an X-ray of his foot/ankle yet. But he added that a medical evaluation is ongoing.

Daboll also said the injury was a non-contact type because Nabers didn’t step on it. His foot just “bent a little bit.”

When asked about Nabus’s first-week status, Daboll still seemed somewhat vague and ominous.

“If he’s ready to play, he’ll play,” the coach said.

Another rookie defensive end, Drew Phillips, who did not practice Monday, was “tightened” on Sunday.

Center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder) is back in practice but likely will not play Saturday against the Texans in Houston. In fact, Daboll said Schmitz and right tackle Evan Neal (ankle) are “difficult” to play this week.

Daboll provided good news on backup quarterback Drew Lock (hip), who could be in uniform Saturday. The Giants did not add a quarterback this week, instead opting to fill the open roster spot with running back Lorenzo Lingard.

The Giants are scheduled to practice Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of this week before heading to Houston on Friday for a preseason game against the Texans on Saturday.
