Bronny James selected 55th by Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes over 25 games as a freshman at USC. Bronny had an uneven freshman season on a disappointing USC team after recovering from a heart attack last summer.

In the second round, Rich Paul reportedly told the team that if Bronny were to take him, he would play in Australia next season. Bronny only did private training with the Lakers and Phoenix Suns.

LeBron James no longer prioritizes playing with Bronny, but he clearly favored it in camp. This is the first time in NBA history that a father and son have played in the league at the same time.

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reports that the James family and some of their closest friends were in New York City watching the draft together. When Bronny was drafted, LeBron gave a champagne toast and became emotional as he talked about their journey to that moment.
