The California Legislature has passed a bill that would allow illegal immigrants to take advantage of the state’s $150,000, zero-dollar, zero-interest home “loans.” The bill now heads to the governor’s desk, where he must either veto or approve the bill by the end of September.

California has one of the worst housing shortages in the country, with an estimated 4.5 million unsold homes and a median home price of nearly $1 million.

“Generations of Californians have been unable to afford to buy a home in their home state because of Democrats’ unsustainable economic policies,” Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones, Republican of San Diego, said in a statement urging California Gov. Gavin Newsom to veto the bill. “Not only is this policy unfair, it sends a dangerous message: ‘Come to California, legally or illegally, and claim a $150,000 mortgage.’”
