The Israeli military said it had launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah.
It is the latest escalation after more than a week of nationwide airstrikes that killed hundreds of Lebanese civilians and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
There are growing calls from Israel’s allies, including U.S. President Joe Biden, to negotiate a ceasefire with Hezbollah.
But Washington’s position is by no means clear. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said he supported Israeli military goals in Lebanon.
So what is America’s Middle East strategy?
