Cardile steps down as Ferrari technical director

Ferrari’s technical director (chassis) Enrico Cardile has submitted his resignation and is leaving the company, with team principal Fred Wasser taking over his role temporarily.

Cardile has been with Ferrari since 2005, joining the racing division Gestione Sportiva in 2016 as Head of Aerodynamics Development. Promoted to Head of Chassis in 2021, Cardile will also take on the role of Head of Chassis and Aerodynamics Technology in 2023.

But amid reports in Italy that Cadilli was being targeted by Aston Martin, Ferrari has confirmed that Cadilli will be leaving the company permanently.

“After almost 20 years at Ferrari, Cardile has submitted his resignation and, with immediate effect, as an interim measure, the chassis area will be overseen by team principal Frederic Vasseur,” a Ferrari statement read. “Everyone at Scuderia Ferrari HP would like to thank Enrico for his hard work over the years.”

Ferrari has been actively recruiting senior technical staff in recent months, with former Mercedes performance boss Loïc Serra set to join the company in early October. When Ferrari announced his arrival in late May, he would report to Cardile as head of chassis performance engineering.

Ferrari finished 2023 strongly and carried that into 2024, currently sitting second in the Constructors’ Championship, some 71 points behind leaders Red Bull. However, since Charles Leclerc’s victory in Monaco, his second win of the season, the team has only managed one podium finish in four races and is now seven points ahead of McLaren.
