HOUSTON ROCKETS: The Rockets family mourns the loss of beloved former coach and general manager Carol Dawson (nicknamed “CD”). For nearly 30 years, CD has been a cornerstone of our organization, playing a pivotal role in shaping the careers of stars like Hakeem Olajuwon and Ralph Sampson. A proud Texan, CD was the only coach to lead Houston to four NBA Finals appearances and two consecutive championships. As GM, he brought iconic talent to Houston, including Charles Barkley, Steve Francis, Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, and formed the Houston Comets, a four-time WNBA champion. While CD’s contributions to basketball were notable, it was his character that truly stood out. We will deeply miss his uplifting spirit, infectious humor and kind nature. We are proud to honor CD’s legacy by having his banner hung on the rafters of Toyota Center alongside other Rockets legends.
