Chelsea Gray: After winning titles, ‘they can still get All-Star and first-team selections’

Chelsea Gray is now a two-time WNBA champion after leading the Las Vegas Aces to their first WNBA title in franchise history.

Chelsea Gray was named WNBA Finals MVP after averaging 18.3 points per game and 6 assists per game on 58% shooting from the field and 45% shooting percentage in four games against the Connecticut Sun.

The Aces have already won the regular season title this season by beating the Chicago Sky in the Commissioner’s Cup, and Point God was also the MVP of that game. This season marks a crowning achievement for Gray, who was controversially left off the WNBA All-Star team last July. But Gray didn’t really care at this point.

“They can keep their All-Stars and their first team.” Gray said defiantly. “I got a ring. “Do you know what I’m saying?”

Gray finished Game 4 with a game-high 20 points as the Aces cruised to a 78-71 victory, capping a truly historic postseason. In over 10 playoff appearances, the former Duke Blue Devil averaged 21.7 points per game and 7 assists per game while shooting 72.7% true shooting on 14.4 field goal attempts per game. The Point God has scored or assisted on 379 LVA points, the most in WNBA playoff history. Gray shot 54.4% from deep and 65.5% from inside the arc.

Gray was expected to bring championship pedigree to the Aces’ roster. This is their second championship after winning with the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016.

“We couldn’t have done this without our team. “It was truly amazing.” Gray said. “I worked so hard to be here and lift the trophy. This is great, but that team trophy is what I’ve been working for.”

Gray and two-time MVP A’ja Wilson make up an impressive duo and have a deep team behind them. No one will be surprised if there are more championships in the future. A’ja Wilson said this after her decisive victory:

“If only I had a point guard like Chelsea Gray,” Wilson said triumphantly. “I’m not worried about anything!”

Gray signed with the Aces for two additional seasons.
