Tottenham manager Anger Postecoglou said he “can’t switch and change his style” after boos were heard at full-time in his side’s 6-3 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

Despite scoring two more goals than any other team in the top flight, Spurs are 11th in the table and eight points behind fourth, having taken a point from their last four home league games.

“I think we’ve been really, really patient over the last 18 months, answering the same questions over and over again,” Postecoglou said in response to suggestions his team could adopt less cavalier tactics.

“Even if people want me to change my approach, I won’t. There’s a reason we do it because we think it will help us be successful.”

Tottenham vs Liverpool ‘A bridge too far’

Tottenham’s performance this season includes a 3-2 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion and a 4-3 defeat at home to Chelsea after leading 2-0 in both games.

They lost 5-1 at one point while being depleted by the leaders, although Postecoglou had 10 players out due to injury and illness.

“It was a bridge too far for us. You could tell we were lacking a little bit of energy and ability to really compete. [Liverpool] It’s the same level,” Postecoglou said.

“If people don’t understand the situation we’re in and the difficulties we’re going through as a team and a squad… People think I have to flip a switch and change and that will somehow change us. different. But that’s it. I will remain focused on making this team the team we want to be.

“In the meantime, we have to accept that there will be difficulties. Who knows? maybe some [the fans] I actually understand the situation we are in now.

“I think a lot of people don’t. I want them to know what we’re trying to do and what we’re trying to build here in the context of where we are. Because I truly believe this will give the fans and the club what they want. But that’s up to them.”

Postecoglou: ‘Others to judge’

Postekoglou expressed optimism when asked about his position, stressing that the support of his supporters was “important.”

“We had a shorter turnaround time than almost every team we’ve played so far, whether here or in Europe,” he added. “I have never rested players or rotated them.

“If you say that [11th place] “It means I’m not doing a good job and must be somehow uncomfortable, and that’s up to other people to judge.”
