Columbia Climate School’s Climate Week 2024 – The State of the Planet

It will be held from September 22nd to 29th. Climate Week NYC Bringing together influential climate leaders to accelerate climate action. Now in its 16th year, the event is the largest global climate event, bringing together the public, academia, business, government and a broad international audience to discuss how to highlight and advance innovative climate solutions.

As the official college partner of Climate Week NYC this year, Columbia Climate School is excited to host a variety of events on campus throughout the week.

“We are honored once again to be an educational partner of Climate Week NYC and the Climate Group,” said Jeffrey Shaman, interim dean of Columbia Climate School. “We are proud to provide our expertise and host events that help raise awareness on critical topics like climate justice, food insecurity, and water resilience.”

Climate Week events hosted by Columbia Climate School include:

  • September 21: Food for Humanity: Unlocking the Potential of Universities to End Hunger and Malnutrition
    Conflict, climate extremes, and COVID-19 have disrupted food production and supply chains, creating unprecedented global hunger, affecting 735 million people. The Climate School’s first food systems program, the Food for Humanity Initiative, leverages university expertise across disciplines to address these challenges.
  • September 22nd and 23rd: Climate Justice Summit: People Deliver
    The summit is a powerful gathering of climate justice leaders from around the world, focusing on international cooperation and knowledge exchange with the goal of fostering global collaboration to make progress on a range of issues, including climate justice financing, sustainable cities, and compensatory justice.
  • September 24th: Water Stock 2024: Stakeholder Perspectives for Action
    The fifth annual Rethinking Water Conference, hosted by Science Water in partnership with Columbia University’s Water Center, aims to bring together leaders from finance, academia, government and industry to find solutions to America’s most pressing water challenges.
  • September 25th: Columbia Climate School Showcase 2024
    A showcase featuring panel discussions and lightning talks led by leading experts from Columbia Climate School. These sessions explore the latest advances in sectoral approaches to climate science, finance, sustainability, mitigation, adaptation, and resilience.
  • September 26th: Forward Food & Fashion
    This interactive and dynamic experience will bring together leaders in the food and fashion industries to exchange insights, share best practices and showcase solutions to address sustainability and climate change. Engage with industry thought leaders through panel discussions, keynote presentations and networking opportunities at this unique event.
  • September 27th: Renewing Fashion: Clean Energy and the Circular Economy
    The panel, featuring industry leaders leading the clean and circular transition in fashion, will address some of the most pressing challenges: phasing out fossil fuels, curbing oversupply, increasing fabric recycling, aligning policies with industry goals, and finding the financing needed to make the transition.
