The New York Giants (2-6) look to keep their slim postseason chances alive when they host the NFC East-leading Washington Commanders (6-2) on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

On a perfect day for football in northern New Jersey, the Giants gave away bobbleheads of Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor wearing legacy uniforms from the glory days of the 1980s.

The stage is set for the Giants to pull off a bit of an upset as four-point underdogs at home.

Here’s the situation…

  • The Commanders reached the end zone with consecutive 3-pointers in the first half to take a 3-3 lead in the red zone. They reached the red zone three times in the second half, but the Giants held them to two field goals.
  • The Giants came into the game leading the NFL in sacks (35). They were held without a sack in this game (running action word) with two QB hits on Jayden Daniels by Azeez Ojulari.
  • Quarterback Daniel Jones went 4-for-4 with a touchdown in the first half but had no passing yards. He is the first player in the NFL to do so since 2000. Rookie wideout Malik Nabers went without a catch in the first half.

Commanders kicker Austin Seibert buried a 20-yard field goal to give Washington a 27-16 lead with 3:46 left in the fourth quarter. The Giants scored again to cut the lead to 27-22, but failed to convert the two-point conversion. It was their second failed attempt of the game and they are now 0-6 on 2-point conversions on the season.

  • RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. It was the start of a show in the first half, but was essentially forced to the backburner as the Giants had to play from behind and rely more on the pass.
  • QB Daniel Jones We overcame a difficult first half to put up some decent numbers. He was 20 of 26 passing for 174 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed seven times for 54 yards, including a bruising 2-yard touchdown run, and called for his fourth touchdown in a ticking OPI.
  • WR Malik Narbers He caught 9 passes for 59 yards. It all came in the second half.
  • LB Micah McFadden On the afternoon, he led the Giants with 11 tackles (6 solo).

The only reported injury came late in the fourth quarter when Darius Slayton left the field after making up a fumble that forced an interception. He was examined in the blue tent and then headed to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion.

Coach Brian Daboll is scheduled to hold a Zoom call with the team’s beat writers on Monday afternoon, and a few players may also attend.

Big Blue is scheduled to return to practice on Wednesday ahead of their Week 10 game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, November 10 at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. Kickoff is at 9:30 PM ET.
