Creamy Pumpkin Smoothie (With Protein!)

4 Min Read

It’s fall now and it’s officially Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) season. And if, like me, you live somewhere where it’s still 80 degrees in October, pumpkin smoothies are a refreshing way to enjoy the flavors of fall. Even if you don’t, I recommend a protein-rich, creamy smoothie.

It’s easy to make for breakfast and has a good mix of healthy fats, protein, and a few carbs. Plus, there are some vegetables inside the pumpkin. You can have it as a snack after exercise or as a dessert. Kids won’t even know there’s ice cream in it. But there’s nothing against a healthy ice cream every now and then.

This smoothie is naturally gluten-free and easy to make dairy-free.

Pumpkin Spice Smoothie Ingredients

I used raw milk, but you can substitute any milk of your choice. If you’re looking for a dairy-free option, cashew milk would be really delicious. Unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk are non-dairy milk options.

Many pumpkin smoothies call for vanilla yogurt, but most have added sugar. I prefer to use plain Greek yogurt (low in sugar and high in protein) and then add my own vanilla and natural sweetener. If you don’t want to use maple syrup, try raw honey, stevia, or frozen bananas.

And if you want to stay dairy-free, there are plenty of good dairy-free yogurts in stores now. You can also make your own coconut milk yogurt.

What would a pumpkin pie smoothie be without pumpkin? You can use homemade or canned pumpkin here. The recipe doesn’t require a lot, so it’s a good idea to use up any leftover pumpkin puree. However, you might want to stay away from pumpkin pie filling. Although this already has a mix of spices, it also contains a lot of unhealthy sugar.

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Topping

Add toppings to your smoothie! These can add some crunch and nutrition. Here are some ideas:
