I am excited to announce that the Daily Kos subscription program is back in a big way. Some of you are long-time subscribers and enjoy all the benefits. Today’s relaunch of the Daily Kos subscription program is something we’ve been very excited about and working toward for a long time. It’s a critical component in how Daily Kos will survive and thrive in the changing media and political landscape.
The widely publicized shifts in the media world (the rise of AI summaries in search engine results, the decline in advertising value, the decline in social media traffic) have forced us to evolve our business model. The changes in the political world have eliminated the revenue that helps coalitions and campaigns build their email lists. Two years ago, our business was generating 25% of its revenue from community support. That number is 75% today.
It has been difficult to navigate these changes in the operations of Daily Kos, but it has positioned us to better align our business goals with the experiences of our readers, writers, commenters, and community members. When you join Daily Kos and directly fund the organization, you become a customer, and we are incentivized to make you happy, not our advertisers and customers. This is definitely aligned with my values, and it makes me incredibly happy.
Thanks to our current subscribers, we are already implementing some much-needed upgrades to the site. We will be sending you far fewer emails, and we will be removing (or have already removed) annoying ad units from the site, including the “sticky” video ads we all hate. And subscribing to Daily Kos means that you will be involved in developing the features and implementations as we begin working on our new platform after the elections this year. It also means I will be able to spend far more time and talk to you more directly.
I’m excited about all this and want to further upgrade and modernize the site, but if you haven’t subscribed yet, I need your help! (And if you have, thank you so much.)
So what does this subscription offer? It starts with an ad-free reading experience. Those who subscribe can attest to how much better Daily Kos is without the annoying ads. That alone makes it worth the price! But we’ll add more perks later.

The subscription fee is $90 per year, but not right away. We are relaunching the program with an introduction now. 60 dollars $40 rate (much better than I originally thought!). This rate is only available until the end of November, so if you want to spend the year at a discounted rate, now is the time to act.
