Minnesota Vikings’ promising rookie linebacker Dallas Turner ran into trouble during the team’s Week 2 win over the San Francisco 49ers.
He suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter after recording two tackles, ending the game prematurely.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell initially downplayed the severity of Turner’s condition, labeling it a routine issue.
However, the rookie caught attention by not showing up for practice twice in a row and wearing a knee brace.
The plot became more complicated on Thursday when Turner revealed his situation.
He told reporters that he likely won’t play in the upcoming game, but expressed hope that he could return for Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers.
“I’m just rehabbing,” Turner explained. “It’s a good decision, obviously, to have a chance to run on the field today. Right now, my teammates are playing against the Houston Texans, so I’m trying to support them in any way I can.”
#Vikings Dallas Turner said he would not play Sunday, but Green Bay said he plans to return.
They said it wasn’t anything serious.

Turner has already shown remarkable talent during his short NFL career.
His pass-rushing skills and run defense quickly became valuable assets for the Vikings, with five tackles and a sack in just two games.
His absence could be felt particularly keenly given the team’s defensive weakness this season.
They managed to take down the 49ers, but having Turner on the field undoubtedly gives them an edge.
But it’s not all doom and gloom for Vikings fans.
Julia Daniels of KARE 11 News offered a glimmer of hope, saying Turner was seen jumping over the counter shortly after finishing the interview.
This is a small but encouraging sign that the newcomer’s recovery is on the right track.
