New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones continues to take a page from Eli Manning’s playbook.

Like Manning, who often gathered his teammates for summer workouts at New Jersey or Duke, Jones continued that tradition. And as expected, he gathered the group in North Carolina this week.

Despite some opinions, off-field team cohesion is critical to a team’s on-field success. The better a quarterback knows his receivers, and vice versa, the easier it will be to predict what the opponent will do next. This is very important during a game when a beep sounds or something forces you to change play.

Offensive line issues last season saw three different quarterbacks struggle to make progress. Any bonds formed during the offseason were broken by the persistent injuries suffered by all three quarterbacks.

The Giants have a ton of work to do to be competitive this season. Keeping this tradition going is Jones’ way of not only showing his teammates that he’s still committed to this team, but also building a new foundation for his receiving corps.

Despite that tradition, Jones has a lot to prove this season. The whole team is like that. These bonding activities are very important, but they are not the only things that are necessary. Everyone must be on the same page and execute to the best of their ability.

So while it would be great to see Jones continue the tradition, it would be even better to see the Giants win this season.
