Daniel Jones’ ‘We Need Better’ This Year

The New York Giants began training camp on Tuesday, which means every player is back on the field and ready to get to work — if they’re healthy, of course.

On Wednesday morning, general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll held their first media session of the 2024 NFL season.

One topic, of course, was the status of quarterback Daniel Jones, whose future with the Giants was uncertain after suffering an ACL tear midway through last season.

Shawn said Jones will take first-team snaps at center as long as he feels good.

Jones has shown considerable mobility during the team’s offseason program, participating in 7-on-7 drills and now participating in 11-on-11 drills and practices.

Shaun also said Jones was “informed” of all the moves the team was making at quarterback. As you’ve probably seen watching HBO’s Hard Knocks over the past few weeks, Shaun and his team have been looking to trade up in order to select one of the top quarterbacks in the draft.

Ultimately, they were unable to reach an agreement with New England for the third overall pick, and instead selected wide receiver Malik Navers with the sixth pick.

According to Sean, Jones has endured a ton of criticism from all sides this offseason, but he’s handled it well.

“Of all the players on the team, he blocks out the noise the best,” Schoen said. “He fits the bill. He’s a great teammate, a leader, and if he stays healthy, I’m excited to see what he can do this year.”

That’s a big point. After becoming the team’s full-time starting quarterback in 2020, Jones avoided injury until 2022, when he led the Giants to the postseason.

Schoen wasn’t fooled either. He told reporters that Jones should improve this year.

“We need better in 2024,” he said.
