Team India has witnessed many heartfelt retirements in recent times. Shikhar Dhawan was one of the recent ones to hang up his boots. The ‘Gabbar’ recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Recently, he revealed the reason behind it. He said that he chose to retire due to lack of motivation. He was not inspired to return to domestic cricket and come back to the Indian team.

Special career and reasons for retirement:

There are few left-handed opening batsmen as incredibly talented as Shikhar Dhawan in Indian cricket. Soon after his debut in international cricket, he became one of the reliable openers for the Indian team in all formats. He has scored over 10,000 runs in all three formats and has played some memorable innings for the team. However, he has not donned the Indian jersey since December 2022 and announced his retirement in the past few months.

He is currently participating in the ongoing Legends League Cricket after retiring from international cricket. Fans are enjoying the thrilling performances of the star batsman. Recently, he shares the reason behind his retirement from international cricket.

On this, Dhawan said, “I didn’t want to play domestic cricket, which I started when I was 18 or 19, and I didn’t have the inner inspiration to play that (form of) cricket.”

He later added, “If I look back at the last two years that I have been a cricketer, I have not played much international cricket, I have only played IPL to IPL, so (overall) I have not played much cricket.”

Satisfaction with the success achieved:

Shikhar Dhawan has excelled not only as a batsman but also as a captain. He captained India in the ODI against Sri Lanka in June 2021 and led the team in 12 matches, winning 7 and losing 3. His IPL career has been equally impressive, playing for multiple franchises. He has shown his talent by scoring an incredible 6769 runs in 222 matches. He is also the second highest run-scorer in IPL history.

Speaking about it, he said, “I thought, ‘Okay, I’ve played enough, I haven’t played that much cricket so I need to take a break and then I’ll lose my touch. Just continuing with the IPL and working hard for two, three months is not going to be enough for me to go out and play.”

He later added, “That’s why I just decided to quit, and yes, I was very happy and content and satisfied with everything I’ve accomplished in my career and very, very grateful for it all.”
