10 Greatest Steelers
Fox Sports has put together a list of the top 10 players in Pittsburgh Steelers history. It’s no surprise that DT Joe Greene topped the charts. Quarterbacks took the next two spots, Terry Bradshaw second and Ben Roethlisberger third. LB Jack Ham and S Troy Polamalu rounded out the rest of the top five.
Notable names not included on the list include all of the franchise’s best receivers: Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, and Hines Ward. EDGE James Harrison and TJ Watt also missed the roster, and S Donnie Shell missed the cut. Overall, a solid list.
Steelers add WR in new mock draft
Pro Football Network’s Dalton Miller has Pittsburgh adding a top-tier wide receiver to the Steelers in his latest mock draft. Texas WR Isaiah Bond selected As the 25th overall selection.
“Bond could be a special player at the NFL level because for many years there have been few players with the combination of explosiveness, fluidity and natural route-running ability.”
With the Alabama transfer, Miller notes that an ankle injury and poor chemistry with QB Quinn Ewers hindered Bond’s production. He caught just 33 passes for 532 yards and five touchdowns as the Longhorns prepared to play in the College Football Playoff.
If Bond is selected, he will become the first Steelers first-round receiver since Santonio Holmes in 2006.
Remembering Greg Gumbel
There was sad news yesterday. Longtime critic Greg Gumbel has died at age 78 after a battle with cancer. Talented in covering a variety of sports, Gumbel served as CBS’ play-by-play man throughout the 2000s, 2010s, and early 2020s.
One of Gumbel’s most memorable Steelers calls came in a divisional game against the Baltimore Ravens in 2010. With the game tied with two minutes remaining, rookie Antonio Brown walks down the right sideline wearing a clutch helmet. His 58-yard catch on 3rd and 19 put the ball on the Ravens’ 4-yard line, setting up the game-winning RB Rashard Mendenhall touchdown.
