BERIA, Ohio – Deshaun Watson will not play in the Cleveland Browns’ second preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, but the quarterback’s surgically rehabilitated throwing shoulder is capable of full contact, coach Kevin Stefanski said Sunday.
Watson did not play in Cleveland’s preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, but Stefanski’s comments open the possibility that Watson could play in the final preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks, his first since November after undergoing season-ending surgery.
Stefanski said Watson will get “the majority” of reps in the Browns’ joint practices with Minnesota on Wednesday and Thursday.
Before the Browns’ preseason opener, Stefanski said the team had a plan for Watson’s workload, but “we’re just going to take it day by day.”
Watson went from throwing every other day during offseason workouts to now throwing every but one day during Cleveland’s training camp practices.
With Watson out of the preseason opener, Jameis Winston got the start and got one drive. Tyler Huntley played the rest of the first half and Dorian Thompson-Robinson played the entire second half.
