That’s why Greenpeace Canada is looking for a new Director of Donor Development and Engagement.

As Greenpeace Canada’s Donor Development and Engagement Manager, you will lead legacy giving, develop and manage relationships with Greenpeace’s key supporters, and oversee the donor care team and processes to drive donor satisfaction and trust, build and strengthen the movement, and ensure Greenpeace is a strong and effective voice for nature, peace, and the planet.

The ideal candidate will be internally motivated, emotionally intelligent, results-focused, have at least 7 years of experience in planned or mid-level giving and at least 2 years of staff management experience. The candidate will also have knowledge of environmental issues and a commitment to Greenpeace’s values ​​and campaign strategies. Fluency in English is a must, with additional fluency in French being a definite asset.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement an annual operating plan to promote legacy and interim giving.
  2. We oversee property management, obtain expert advice when necessary, and provide accurate reporting and forecasting.
  3. Identify key donor prospects and develop a major donor pipeline within your midstream donor program.
  4. Build close relationships with your donors and prospective donors through regular phone calls, personalized communications, events, and face-to-face meetings.
  5. Identify potential donors and ask them to make a legacy gift.
  6. Develop and implement strategies to maintain strong relationships with new and existing donors, and expand your existing network of estate planning professional advisors.
  7. Develop and implement strategies to build a sense of community with donors and volunteers through virtual and offline events.
  8. Manages a fundraising and planning giving manager and two volunteer care staff. Supervises recruitment, provides orientation, training, instruction and support, assigns job responsibilities, evaluates employee performance, determines training requirements and handles employee relations issues as needed.
  9. Develop, implement and maintain standard procedures and business rules to manage Greenpeace Canada’s fundraising activities. This includes donation processing and auditing, donor service level agreements, donor Q&A, etc.
  10. Manages relationships with Greenpeace Canada’s donation processing and fulfillment service providers. Develops and manages budgets for all related services.
  11. Participate in and contribute to relevant practice communities.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in planning, fundraising, or sales (including donation solicitation and management)
  • 2+ years of experience managing or supervising employees
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent relationship building skills with donors and colleagues
  • Experience working with suppliers and related professionals (e.g. attorneys, financial planners)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Project management experience, including use of relevant software applications (e.g. Asana)
  • Event planning experience
  • Extensive experience using Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising CRMs
  • Strong problem solving skills and applicant/customer service orientation
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in effective fundraising and loyalty building strategies.
  • Strong experience in strategy development, implementation and evaluation, and budget management.
  • Ability to read, understand, and calculate financial statements
  • Comfort and ease in interpreting legal concepts/language.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts and structures into simple, plain English, either written or spoken.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, including the ability to keenly read people and situations and respond accordingly, as well as a high level of self-awareness and compassion.
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential, and French proficiency is a huge plus.
  • Knowledge of an Aboriginal language, Inuit or Métis language is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of other languages ​​is also highly desirable, reflecting the diversity of Canada’s diverse communities.
  • General knowledge of environmental and social justice issues and knowledge of Greenpeace’s overall goals and intentions.

You will work with colleagues across Canada and collaborate with other Greenpeace offices around the world.
