Disney Music Group (DMG) has partnered with AI music startup AudioShake to bring “new creative and marketing opportunities” to its catalog.
AudioShake uses AI to break down music tracks into stems that can be used for remixing, sampling, and other applications. This technology can be used to separate vocals or dialogue from instruments in older recordings where multiple tracks are not available, for example.
The startup raised $2.7 million in a seed round in May last year, bringing its total raised to over $1 million to date. Five million dollars.
According to DMG, That catalog “From early recordings of Mickey Mouse to modern classics across a variety of genres.”
However, the company says many of these early recordings lack the component parts (aka “stems”), limiting their use in new formats like sync licensing, remastering, immersive audio, and lyric videos.
Under a new agreement with AudioShake, DMG will use the startup’s instrument stem separation technology to expand the potential of stemless recordings.
AudioShake has participated in the 2024 Disney Accelerator Business Development Program, designed to accelerate the growth of innovative companies.
The deal will give DMG access to AudioShake’s automatic lyric transcription tool, which Disney Music Group said will “enhance the metadata in its catalog, enable more powerful sync search, and expand into formats like lyric videos.”
