Reducing the impact of food production is critical to bringing society back within planetary boundaries, says Montreal-based co-founder and CEO Wayne McIntyre. localizationWe want to “decarbonize and hyper-localize food and beverage manufacturing.” The company is developing technology and business strategies for decentralized food production using automated microfactories located close to key consumer markets. In exchange for providing just 1,200 square feet of space for Relocalize’s operations, it promises retailers “complete control of the supply chain.” Relocalize claims that as a result, food does not need to be transported long distances, reducing product costs by up to 30%, reducing CO2 emissions by 90% and reducing other operational costs.
