World No. 1 men’s doubles player Matt Ebden will compete in the mixed doubles on day 9 of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

London, England, July 9, 2024 | Leigh Rogers

World number one Matt Ebden is one of four Australian players scheduled to compete on day nine of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

Ebden and Ellen Perez resume their first-round mixed doubles match in a precarious position. The No. 1 seeded Australian was facing a set point with Argentina’s Andres Molteni and the US’ Asia Muhammad before being forced off the court yesterday due to rain.

Hayden Jones continues his title challenge in the men’s singles when he faces Netherlands’ world number 27 Mies Rottgering in the second round.

The 17-year-old from Gold Coast will be looking to build on an impressive run of form that has helped him win 30 of his 36 matches on the ITF Junior Tour this season.

“Honestly, I feel really confident, especially on the fast courts. I think I’ve only lost four matches on hard or grass this year,” Jones said. He won his first title at Wimbledon earlier this week.

“I’ve had a lot of wins so far so it’s been a very good year for me and I’m very confident about where I’m headed next.”

One of Jones’ losses was to 17-year-old Rotgering, who he narrowly defeated in three sets at an ITF J300 tournament in Australia in January.

His younger sister, 16-year-old Emerson Jones, also advanced to the second round of the women’s singles.
