England tops Group C thanks to Bellingham’s header

England achieve slim win in Euro 2024 opening match 🏆

England’s Euro 2024 journey started at the top of Group C with a narrow 1-0 win over Serbia. Jude Bellingham was the hero of the hour, putting us ahead after just 13 minutes thanks to a lucky turn from Bukayo. Saka.

We sat down for the first half. Kyle Walker almost scored twice with an audacious rush into the box, but his attempts missed both Phil Foden and Harry Kane. We were riding high, but as break time approached, things got weird.

Things changed after halftime. Serbia heated up and we lost our rhythm. Aleksandar Mitrovic called for a penalty kick, but the referee stopped it. Substitutes Dusan Tadic and Luka Jovic almost put us ahead by a point as they chased an equaliser, while Gareth Southgate put off his substitution until we had almost cost him.

When Southgate finally shuffled the pack, Jarrod Bowen made an impact almost immediately, providing a cross that Harry Kane headed towards goal, only for Serbia goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic to make a stunning save.

The pressure was non-stop. Jordan Pickford had to be nervous as he blocked Dusan Vlahovic’s fierce shot. And as the clock ticked down, we all begged for the final whistle to blow. We were hanging by a thread, but we did it!

Slovenia and Denmark drew first, so we are in a good position to advance to the knockouts. But if they want to go far, they will need to bring some first-half magic and not the shaky play they fell into later on.
