ESPN Names Caitlin Clark WNBA Rookie of the Year Candidate

Now that the 2024 WNBA season has passed its halfway point, fans and analysts can begin to form reasonable opinions about how the remainder of the season will play out.

Caitlin Clark entered the draft with huge expectations as the first overall pick. Indiana Fever In the 2024 WNBA Draft, Clarke performed well to live up to those predictions and the criticism that comes with every professional move she makes.

ESPN just released it. Midseason 2024 WNBA Awards Tracker Alexa Filippo and Michael Boeppel have Clarke as a strong candidate to win the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award.

Clarke, the No. 1 overall pick, leads all rookies in scoring (16.0), assists (7.1), 3-pointers (2.7 per game) and minutes (34.4). She ranks second in steals (1.3) and fourth in rebounds (5.7). Clarke has two games with at least 15 points, 10 assists and five rebounds, the most of any WNBA rookie in history. The biggest problem on offense is turnovers. She leads the league with 5.6 per game. If she can help the Fever get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, her Rookie of the Year bid will be even stronger. – ESPEN.

If Clark can win Rookie of the Year, it will be the second consecutive season in which a Fever player has won the award. Aliyah Boston won Rookie of the Year last season, averaging 14.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks.

Clark is in the running for Rookie of the Year. chicago sky Rookie Angel Reese is also breaking rookie records, and ESPN pegs Reese as Clark’s top challenger for Rookie of the Year.

Reese has already recorded more consecutive double-doubles than anyone in WNBA history (11) and is a strong contender for Clark. The seventh overall pick is averaging 13.2 points and leads the league in rebounds (11.8).

Boston won unanimously. This ROY race was a battle of forwards (Collier) and guards ( Dallas WingsArike Ogunbowale) Collier won 29-14. – ESPEN.

It will be interesting to see how this race unfolds as the season progresses.

Clarke’s arrival has certainly raised the bar for the Fever, and Indiana seems to be getting better. Clarke, Boston and Kelsey Mitchell were each named to Team WNBA as 2024 WNBA All-Stars.

That trio is what Indiana is pinning its hopes on for the future. Of course, Clark’s growth and development will play a big role in determining how high the Fever can fly.

For now, Clark and Fever are really just focusing on game-by-game improvement. So far, that’s working out well.
