The FIA European Drag Racing Championship heads to NitrOlympX, traditionally held at the Hockenheimring, for the penultimate round of the 2024 season.

Duncan Micallef (Top Fuel), Jonny Lagg (Top Methanol), David Vegter (Pro Modified) and Jimmy Ålund (Pro Stock) are currently leading their respective classes.

Micallef vs Colin, Top Fuel
The title race in Top Fuel is between Duncan Micallef and Susanne Callin. After winning Tierp, Callin is just 19 points behind Micallef. Micallef, the 2017 champion, has been consistent but has never won. The contenders include Jndia Erbacher, who is racing at his home track, Dennis Nilsson, who is returning after a two-year absence, and Linn Fløysvik, who is making his Top Fuel debut.

LAGG leads the top methanol
Jonny Lagg leads Top Methanol after his win at the Tierp Arena, just 17 points ahead of teammate Tony Bryntesson. Third-placed Sandro Bellio is looking to close the 33-point gap in the Funny Car after a season marred by mechanical problems. The home crowd will be cheering on Silvio Strauch, who returns after an early-season engine failure, and Jürgen Nagel, who restarts his season at Hockenheim.

Consistency is the key to VEGTER’S PRO MODIFIED’s success
David Vegter is consistently fast in Pro Modified but is still looking for his first win. With Jere Rantaniemi skipping Hockenheim, Vegter will be looking to extend his lead. Andres Arnover, Stian Rusånes and Roger Johansson are behind him, with Johansson riding on his second-place finish at Tierp. 2022 NitrOlympX winner Michel Tooren will also be looking for a strong finish in his new Camaro.

Several drivers, including Bruno Bader, Kim Christiansen and Jean Dulamon, are set to return after a brief absence, while a delegation of German and Swiss drivers will also be joining the event to help increase the level of competition.

ÅLUND is undefeated in pro stocks
In Pro Stock, Jimmy Ålund remains undefeated and holds an overwhelming lead of 82 points. Robin Norén and Michael Malmgren are his closest competitors, with Norén hoping to build on Tierp’s strong performance. Stefan Ernryd will be looking to build on his recent improvement, while Richard Sundblom and Simon Ekengren will be looking to turn their seasons around. Lasse Britsmar rounds out the field, looking for his first breakaway win of the season.

The preliminaries begin on Friday, August 23rd and run through Saturday, with the qualifiers taking place on Sunday.
