FIA Girls on Track event welcomes and inspires over 100 young women from schools across Kigali

The week of the FIA Congress in Rwanda is packed with exciting and inspiring events at the BK Arena, with the FIA Girls on Track program welcoming over 100 young women from schools across Kigali. It has begun.

Accompanied by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and racing driver, F1 analyst and presenter Naomi Schiff, the girls not only took to the track in karts for the first time, but also took on the simulators and took on a variety of sporting challenges. We had the opportunity to meet motorsport experts from around the world and share their advice and experiences with the girls.

Participants also had the unique opportunity to connect virtually with FIA Women’s Motorsport President Burcu Çetinkaya, who joined remotely from the Women’s Motorsport North American Summit in Indianapolis, fostering an inspiring international dialogue.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem met with attendees and expressed his continued support for the program. “The FIA is building better and more accessible pathways to motorsport, and initiatives like FIA Girls on Track allow us to have a direct say in the future of the sport.

“I am committed to promoting women’s participation on and off the track, championing diversity within the industry, and ensuring accessibility.”

Sara Mariani, FIA Director of Sustainability and EDI, said: “It’s important to provide opportunities like this to young women. It’s an opportunity to get inspired, network, ask questions, and spark curiosity.

“These girls are the future of motorsport, and I’m proud that we can continue to grow and expand their impact by offering programs like FIA Girls on Track.”

The FIA Girls on Track program provides behind-the-scenes access to young women in the world of motorsport and an educational race week plan including workshops and lectures from leading women within the sporting community.

The FIA continues to expand the program with additional collaborations and activities planned for 2025.
