Just three years ago, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl in Tom Brady’s first season.

Naturally, most of the credit goes to Brady, who is generally considered the greatest quarterback and player in NFL history, but the Buccaneers have a strong roster that made his adjustment from his two-decade run with the New England Patriots easier.

Running back Leonard Fournette was a key member of that cast, but he struggled with the Buffalo Bills last year and remains a free agent as training camp approaches.

According to Adam Schefter, he is hoping to be signed by an NFL team before the new season begins.

A graduate of Louisiana State University and the fourth overall pick in the 2017 draft, Fournette spent three professional seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before moving to Tampa Bay for the 2020 season.

During the winning 2020 season, he rushed for 367 yards and six touchdowns, primarily as a backup to Ronald Jones Jr., but he came into his own in the playoffs.

He started all four postseason games, finishing with 300 rushing yards, 148 receiving yards, and four touchdowns, including 89 rushing yards, 46 receiving yards, and a touchdown in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.

A shoulder injury will limit Fournette to just two games in 2023, but if he’s healthy and agile, the 29-year-old could be at least productive as an RB2.

With training camp only two weeks away, there are quite a few contenders out there who could use him as part of their running back room.
