Former Manchester United star Katie Zelem has officially joined National Women’s Soccer League club Angel City.
United acquired Zelem when the club relaunched its women’s team in 2018. She was named captain for the 2019/20 season.
Last season, Zelem played a key role as Mark Skinner’s side beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 at Wembley in the FA Cup final, United Women’s first major trophy.
The 28-year-old has made 161 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, scoring 32 goals.
She left United when her contract expired this summer.
News of Zelem’s move to Angel City was revealed in a voice memo posted to the Los Angeles team’s official X account, in which the name “Katie” was beeped out.
The midfielder told Angel City Official website“I am excited to join Angel City and take on this exciting new challenge.”
“The opportunity to compete in the NWSL, one of the most competitive leagues in the world, is a huge turning point in my career.”
“I want to test myself against the best players in a new league and contribute to the success of this ambitious club.”

“She has honed her leadership skills at a high level as captain of Manchester United, is an accomplished midfielder with elite football acumen and her desire to bring a championship to LA was clear from our first interaction.”

The England international, who has 12 caps, is under contract with Angel City until 2026.
