Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested in Tennessee and faces four charges following a car crash Thursday night, a Franklin Police Department spokesperson told ESPN.
Cutler, 41, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a handgun while intoxicated, failure to take reasonable care to avoid a collision and implied consent.
According to a release from the Franklin Police Department, officers responded to a minor traffic accident in downtown Franklin on Thursday around 5 p.m. A police investigation revealed that Cutler had rear-ended another vehicle.
“While speaking with Cutler, officers observed a strong odor of alcohol,” the press release said. “Cutler was also speaking slurred and had bloodshot eyes. Cutler refused a field sobriety test and was transported to a local hospital where a blood sample was obtained through a blood search warrant.”
A police search of Cutler’s vehicle revealed that he was in possession of two firearms, including a loaded handgun.
Cutler was booked into the Williamson County Jail and held on $5,000 bail just before 7 p.m. I was released at 9:59 p.m.
Cutler was a first-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2006 and played until 2008. He was traded to the Chicago Bears during the 2009 draft, and through the 2016 season, he became the franchise’s all-time leading passer with 23,443 yards in 102 games. Scored 154 touchdowns. He spent his final season with the Miami Dolphins in 2017.
