Sri Lanka is in shock over the tragic death of former U-19 cricket team captain Dhamika Niroshana. The incident occurred at Niroshana’s Kanda Mawatha residence in Ambalangoda on Tuesday night.

According to reports, Niroshana was at home with her wife and two children when unknown assailants shot her dead using a 12-bore gun. Police rushed to the scene after receiving news of the incident and sent the body for autopsy. More details about the incident will be released later.

Niroshana was regarded as one of the finest pace bowling all-rounders to emerge from the Sri Lankan youth cricket system. He led the Under-19 team, which included future stars like Parvez Maharuf, Angelo Mathews and Upul Tharanga. Despite his promising talent, Niroshana retired from the sport at the young age of 20.

As a cricketer, Niroshana played 12 First-Class matches and 8 List A matches for Galle Cricket Club between 2001 and 2004. He was a versatile all-rounder, scoring over 300 runs and taking 19 wickets. He made his debut for the Sri Lanka U-19 team in 2000 and represented the team in several U-19 Tests and ODIs over the next two years.

The cricket community and fans mourn the loss of a talented sportsman who showed obvious potential from a young age. The investigation into his tragic death is ongoing.
