Alain Prost (1985, 1986, 1989, 1993)
Alain Prost never looked back after winning on his home soil debut at the 1981 French Grand Prix. The driver, later known as ‘The Professor’, went on to win more titles in the following years, but it was not until 1985 that he experienced championship glory with McLaren, becoming France’s first world champion.
Prost repeated the feat to win back-to-back titles in 1986 before his next title arrived during a period famous for his fierce rivalry with teammate Ayrton Senna. These two were a dominant force in 1988, with McLaren winning all but one race. However, it was Senna who took the win on his debut.

Tensions rose in 1989, culminating in a controversial crash at the season finale at Suzuka, which ultimately resulted in Prost taking the drivers’ crown. After his move to Ferrari in 1990, history repeated itself as the pair feuded again at the same venue, with Senna taking the win that time.
Relations between Prost and the Scuderia deteriorated in 1991, leading to the Frenchman’s early exit before the end of the season. After a sabbatical in 1992, Prost returned to the grid with Williams in 1993, winning his fourth and final title before retiring from the sport at the end of the campaign.
