This is Biden’s first public appearance this week since he went into hiding at Camp David to prepare for the debate.

Excerpt Virginia-Pilot Report During Jill’s visit:

VIRGINIA BEACH — Before heading to Atlanta for Thursday night’s presidential debate, First Lady Jill Biden stopped by Hampton Roads to thank supporters and encourage her husband.

A giddy crowd eager to see her gathered at the Democratic campaign office on Virginia Beach Boulevard near Newtown Road. Soon the room was filled with supporters and journalists standing elbow-to-elbow, many fanning out campaign leaflets while the air conditioner kept running.

Meanwhile, supporters of former President Donald Trump stood near the road holding posters with messages critical of President Joe Biden.

The 73-year-old first lady arrived just after 2 p.m. wearing a lilac suit and carrying a folded yellow legal pad with handwritten notes.

There were almost as many reporters in the room as there were supporters.

Jill later appears to have attended a campaign event in Atlanta.

New York Times reporter Katie Rogers reports that Jill will not be in the studio with Joe for the discussion. “I have some interesting news for you. POTUS is expected to participate alone in the debate studio tonight. First lady Jill Biden will be there and watch from her dressing room. “Melania Trump’s office has said nothing about whether she will be in Atlanta.”
