Samsung’s foldable fanfare is over, and now Google can officially take the spotlight. The company is teasing its hardware. New promotional materialCheck it out for yourself on the Google Store, where you can also see one of the first official photos of the Pixel 9 Pro.
The video Google created for the event is particularly sassy. The premise is that you chat with Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, and ask for help writing a farewell letter to your old phone. I assume this is a reference to a device from a fruit company that grows on trees. The prompt also mentions finding a device that “actually feels magical,” perhaps a nod to Samsung’s Galaxy AI.
We didn’t see a Gemini response to the prompt. Instead, you can scroll down the page to see information about the Made by Google event. The live stream begins. August 13th at 10am PT / 1pm ET. Scrolling down further, we see a snippet of what appears to be the top of the Pixel 9 Pro. Rumor has it that the corners are more rounded than ever, and the camera bar appears to be intentionally protruding.
The point of this promotional material is to remind you that the real appeal of the Google Pixel lies in its Gemini AI. 9to5google Earlier this week, we reported that Google may be buying Pixel 9 hardware and offering Gemini Advanced for a year, in an effort to get more users to use the chatbot. Eventually, it could replace Google Assistant to do things like get help with travel, or, as in the example above, write a letter to get out of a relationship. Google’s Gemini can do these things, but with varying results.
Google said the event will see the launch of new Android products, including Android 15 Gemini and the public release of the “Pixel portfolio.” You’ll be able to pre-order the new Pixel devices after the Made by Google live stream.
