Ajax went top of the Europa League after beating Besiktas 4-0 tonight.
The Amsterdammers, ninth in the Eredivisie, were too strong for their Turkish opponents and took a three-goal lead within the hour mark with Kian Fitz-Jim, Mika Godts and Kenneth Taylor all on target.
Godts added his second of the night for Francesco Farioli’s men with 17 minutes remaining.
Steaua Bucharest also scored four goals to beat Ligas 4-1, while goals from Rayan Cherki and Said Benrahma helped Lyon beat Olympiacos 2-0.
Jose Mourinho, who won the title with Manchester United in 2017, got off to a good start as Fenerbahce beat Union Saint-Gillois 2-1 in Istanbul.
A Caglar Soyuncu header and a Christian Burgess own goal gave Fener control only for a late goal from Ross Sykes to give Belgium some hope.
Both sides finished the match with 10 men, with USG’s Kevin Mac Allister and Fener’s Bright Osayi-Samuel both recording reds.
Prince Kwabena Adu and Vaclav Jemelka scored late goals to earn Viktoria Plzen a 3-3 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt, while Sporting Braga produced a surprising recovery to beat Maccabi Tel-Aviv 2-1.
