On Wednesday, when asked, “What can I wear to feel presentable?”, she said, “It’s getting colder, so I’m wearing loafers. They make a clicking sound when I walk, and they show people passing by that I’m serious.”
SBG talks about how to make your home a sanctuary. “When my daughters were 14, I told them it was time for them to clean their bedrooms, and they did pretty well. However, my oldest daughter was going through a rough patch in third grade (difficult classes, SATs, friendship drama, etc.). One afternoon, I noticed that her room was out of control and tried to talk to her when she got home from school. When she came through the door, she threw her heavy backpack on the kitchen table, walked into the living room, and fell asleep on the couch for two hours. We didn’t talk about her room that night. I had the next day off, so while she was at school, I made her room the retreat she needed. I washed her sheets, hung them out to dry on a clothesline, dusted them, and bought a small bouquet of flowers to put on her nightstand. That afternoon, she came home and went straight to her room, and I heard her yell, ‘Mommy!’ She came into the kitchen and started crying and hugging me. She told me how overwhelmed she was and how she had no energy to clean her room. It was a “While we can draw the line at what our children are responsible for, it reminds us that we all need grace, support, and love to land.”
